Shows I watch

Just a list of shows I am currently watching; if anyone else also watches them or has watched them/would be interested in dorking over things, let me know.

-House, M.D.
-Glee
-Once Upon a Time
-Awake
-Inuyasha (up through season 5)
-Bleach (up through season 9)
-Grimm

I'm not necessarily an avid fan of all these shows. Grimm consistently leaves me with a "meh" feeling and Bleach is very hit or miss. But I really like House, Awake and Once Upon a Time. House has such a huge following that it's actually kind of irritating trying to talk intelligently to people in that fandom (god, too many opinions and unrealistic pairings), but I don't know anyone who watches the other two.

(I have seen very few episodes of House, and can't watch many more because argh needles. But I'm pretty sure Cuddy's baby/Wilson is not a realistic pairing. Because House, MD isn't Twilight.)

I've watched House, but the broadcaster here has switched it out for something else for the moment. Also, since I'm not getting it "directly", I'm probably at least a season behind you guys :)

I'm more interested in the "medical Sherlock Holmes" aspect than who is paired up with whom, though, so you wouldn't have to fear that.

The medical sleuthing is the part I'm most interested in, as well. I enjoyed season 6 and 7 for their dramatics, but I'm glad there hasn't been as much of that in the final season. I don't know how far you've watched so I can only speak in general terms, but one of the things I like about the show is that it prompts me to research things. A lot of the time, what I find is a lot of conflicting information. Websites like WebMD and Mayoclinic are horrible places to get information about drugs and maladies, unless you don't care that the information on them is often over two decades behind. There's also a lot of misinformation; trying to find hard data on the efficacy of certain treatments is very tedious because the first sites that come up in any search will be business sites hell-bent on selling it to you. Additionally, typing up almost any combination of symptoms into a search will, without fail, give you some variant of "but it could also be CANCER" in the search results. It's no wonder people have ridiculous expectations for and beliefs about treatment, medical or otherwise. Their primary pool of information is poisoned.

I don't know how far you've watched so I can only speak in general terms, but one of the things I like about the show is that it prompts me to research things.

I looked at the reviews over at Polite Dissent (really good review site by the way :) ), and the last episode I can remember is Season 7 ep. 18. I keep thinking that I've seen episodes after that one, but I don't recognize their descriptions on Polite Dissent, so... perhaps I haven't.

It's no wonder people have ridiculous expectations for and beliefs about treatment, medical or otherwise. Their primary pool of information is poisoned.

That, and it takes work to gather the various threads of information that are out there; work and effort being something you don't usually have if its your illness. Even if you're doing it to understand what's going on in House, it means you have to do some sleuthing of your own :)

But take a look at the PD reviews. Though I'm no professional and thus can't say for sure, he does seem to know his stuff about the medical parts of House.
