On golden standards

luna_manarIt occurs to me that it is important to know the mechanics of writing; and to be aware of various styles and their history; and to understand plot, characterization, pacing, and structure.
But, with all these things in mind, it also occurs to me that some of the best things I've ever read consciously break some if not many of these well-known standards.
And that's a good thing.
