Strikethrough 2018 (Tumblr)

So...yeah. Tumblr.
I've seen a bunch of people talking about offloading onto DreamWidth, but I'm not sure exactly how prevalent that exodus will be. I tuned up my profile and icons here a bit, so maybe (hopefully?) I'll be using this site on a more regular basis. I'm just not quite sure yet what that will look like, if it comes to pass.
Anyway, I'm still here, never really left, I just haven't had as much reason to say much here as I have in the past. I'm still on Tumblr, too, but if you're done with that site and came here instead, hello, glad to have you!

Date: 2018-12-10 10:30 am (UTC)It really depends on what sort of connection makes you most comfortable, I think...the back and forth discussions of a place like DW are personal, oppositional in that point-counterpoint sort of way that is not necessarily argumentative but builds connection through increasingly specific understanding with individuals; you become ever more aware of exactly what your followers/friends think and feel, and where you stand in relation to those thoughts and feelings. tumblr, on the other hand, promotes a more collective, "speaking together" sort of connection between people, everyone sharing all the things that they like or that speak to them, but only rarely commenting themselves, being part of a force of voices without having to put yourself on the spot to be noticed. I think both have their pros and cons, like you said. I'm not sure which makes me feel more "at home," although I do lean toward wordy posts and replies (obviously, haha).
The one thing I wish DW had, though, was the option to hide all your subs/followers. I don't feel like that is pertinent information and I never liked it being in the open. tumblr is unique in that it hides it, and I always appreciated that. Maybe they'll consider making that an option in the future, if it's even possible.
