Oh, well this is fun...
Jul. 13th, 2010 11:21 pm1) Regardless of whether you are or aren't "otherkin", "non-human", etc., what's your take on the concept? How would you define what it means to you, primarily? What does "I am [species]" mean to you: a statement of pride, a comforting chant of sympathetic resonance, an attempt to find home, a goal for bettering yourself? Is "I am" just one part of your spectrum or is it the whole?
I don't see myself as furry, otherkin, or anything similar, but by and large, the meanings are as amorphous as any other human-created social group. Veguely, the terms indicate individuals who find spiritual/emotional meaning in self-representation as an animal or fantastical creature. This can be a good thing, a bad thing, or neither.
2) Dragons: to breathe or not to breathe? By which I mean, specifically, breathing "substances": fire, ice, poison gas, what-have-you. Does it feel "right" to you that you should have a "breath weapon", or not?
For me, yes, and the only thing that works for me is fire; blue, gaseous, fossil flame.
3) What few words would you use to describe magic? Dance, weave, flow, song, change, love, wonder, none of the above? Which of these (or others) stand out to you most, and why? What do you mean by these words?
Rising, heavy, acceleration.
4) Is magic (i.e. your concept of magic, whether you perform it or not) intimate and personal, to be shared with everyone, both, neither, something else?
Yes, it is intimate. As for whether it should be shared: that completely depends.
5) Can gender roles (e.g. a "male and female principle", magic for menstruating women) ever be useful magically or are they outdated/sexist/problematic? Does your tradition or belief system, or the tradition or belief system you'd want to follow if it existed, make a distinction between sexes or not?
Does not apply.
6) What are your biggest frustrations with the magical/otherkin communities? What aren't you getting out of the experience of community that you'd like to get out of it? What do people need to be doing more of/less of, in your opinion?
Too many of them are impossible for me to talk to without my being forced to acknowledge their otherkin-ness.
7) "Monster": do you identify with this concept or not?
Yes. There are things that I feel, from the bottom of my heart, are good and wonderful things. But they are not good things for other people, or for other things. Monsters are worst fears; I am someone's worst fear. I can't apologize for it, because I can't change it.
8) Is magic a colour to you? Is there a musical note that reflects it? Is there a smell or a taste or a physical sensation that captures it?
Any or all of the above. Also, hahaha on 8 = the color of magic.
